Despite the current issues impacting the worldwide population, Team Mushin are proud to celebrate their 13th anniversary of their Jiu-Jitsu school which was founded in April 2007.

Classic Mushin (2016)

Since opening the coaches have strived to provide the best quality teaching to their students with no discrimination or ego on the mat.

With head coach Sue King at the helm, she said: “I had always wanted to open my own ju-jitsu school. Unfortunately, the opportunity arose following the passing of my father, whose inheritance allowed me to open the academy and follow my dreams.

“I wanted to create a safe space where children can train, something more than just martial arts,we use Budo Values as our gym ethos as a  key part of the school’s curriculum, and we stepped up their importance  when forming as a Community Interest Company in 2015, to look beyond the classes and show how they can be used in everyday life.”

Mushin as a school has been open since April 2011, marking a nine year anniversary, despite a change of venue, the club are still standing strong with continuous waves of students flooding through the doors.

On what has changed since the start of Team Mushin, King said: “In terms of the business, we have a  formed a new committee with our senior Yudansha , In January i was appointed regional officer for United Kingdom Federation and received  the title  of Shihan  from Soke Kevin Pell  founder of Ishin Ryu Ju-Jitsu , we have also appointed  Kevin  Corkhill  who is a black belt  with vast knowledge, and  experience on the grappling circuit he makes a phenomenal edition to the team ,we also have many students stepping up to take seniors grades and volunteer roles  in the academy,

I never wanted a ‘commercial’ business, we pride ourselves on our family orientation and ever since the start, it has never felt like work it just feels like going to train and enjoy time with friends.”

Current Mushin. (2020)
